- Dear Preservation Of Morals and Firmaments Assembly In Local Sitting Presidence and Emminence of the KinKirBright Village Hall Committee (POMFAILSPEKVHC),
I was really pissed off last night. Like, you lost a lot of my goodwill - all three of you (which is really two because the cohabiters who made it clear they'd rather I go away and shut up without a vote, or a proper discussion, which would be pointless anyway as they have full casting control with a majority of 2:1 at all times and had clearly made a prior decision without asking a single question): that twat of a Treasurer married to that woman of a Secretary and even YOU, dear Chair, married to me...
I mean, come on. What was all that bolox about "I've spent too many years writing bullshit rules that don't work to want to have to follow any here, but still here are the rules as to WHY YOU can't do the thing I don't want you to do - and no we will not be having any rules of our own"? The rules stipulate a PARTY political ban BTW, but we 'agreed' to ignore them anyway... check the non minutes. Briefly, also on the subject of 'political' usage I note the regular holding of elections and other clearly politically motivated groups: what for example, are the 'actions' of Martyr's Action? And why was a non elected representative of the local authority present at their last hiring? Where was your Treasurer to bravely stand in sole judgment of what political purposes were acceptable to the Hall's 'community' on that heretical occasion? I trust he will not let any future harms go by without the expectation of (self served, obviously) sanction?
I dunno, I think maybe I just wasn't feeling 'heard'? Being as I live in the village and your committee of two out of town cohabiters are the committee, effectively, I just thought we could have had a better discussion where I didn't have to shout to be heard or spoken over by a Treasurer who later admitted he "didn't even know what the proposition was"! And, forgive me, but it seems wrong that the village hall just down the road had one fundraiser, two years ago, 'for Ukraine' and still have their flag in the window despite doing nothing since, but 'we' cannot countenance doing anything 'for Palestine' (that being the non specific proposition as it was put to me) as it could be seen as being 'political' and is "not what locals want", despite me being the only local you've heard from on the subject. I might suggest that there could be some unconscious prejudice against brown people in these parts, but that would, I think, be to misinterpret the problem and hopefully, the personnel.
I think it's all the videos of dead, dying and dismembered children I keep seeing that makes it a bit of a tough pill to swallow. To be told by a Treasurer that: "we have to be careful not to upset people in this little community" - when I am the community and he is the Treasurer - seemed a bit outrageously fucking disgusting. Just a bit though. And authoritarian in extremis on his part, I humbly submit.
I also felt that, having been railroaded, ignored, told "no" without a vote and given no avenue of continuation or progress (again, I assume, the conversation will not be minuted for me to revisit next time?) the only option for me to be heard would be to stand for election as Treasurer on the basis that the cohabiting pair with the casting vote are little fucking Hitlers on dodgy ground as far as rules of committee making go. You do have elections don't you?
So, just to recap, in the absence of any minuted correspondence:
I had asked unofficially prior to the meeting, in a hall Whatsapp group the Secretary 'doesn't do', whether a man who sings songs would be welcome to use KinKirBright Village Hall as a venue to fundraise 'for Palestine'. The actual beneficiaries of said fundraising were, at that point, unspecified, but I noted my preference for identifying a child victim of the tragic bombing and murder continuing in the area*.
Despite the Treasurers dictum that: "It ain't never gonna happen" (whatever it is, presumably), I will continue to make my kitchen available for scone making and other hall related tasks; to use it myself for provision of mince pies (for fundraising purposes ironically); to clean the hall, assist with hall events and answer all residents emergency calls promptly, whilst you reconsider my approach.
Or if not, not.
Finally, it pains me to have to add, dear Chair, as I know you will feel this criticism acutely, that, for a Chair to have presided over such a poor show, with only the words: "this is now over" was, perhaps, to allow the very clear imbalance of power and one sided-ness of the discussion to remain un-challenged. Still, as heir Treasurer observed on the way out: "It was good we had it".
In PS: I also note that the expression of interest from one member of the local community, namely 'Dave Of KinKirBright, to run a Pub Night has been 'received' and transmuted to a 'Games Night', under the auspices of 'The Committee' (AKA the Treasurer/Secretary Kompact). It was suggested, I make the Dave of KinKirBright aware of this, inviting him to discuss his own proposal (which is no longer his proposal by decree of the Kompact).
I will indeed let Dave know the 'committee's' decision, which is, to recap the non-minutes: "received proposal, changed proposal, invited proposer to discuss our proposal". Procedures? Rules? Begone....
Yours,
Dismissed (God bless Donald Duck., little shops, china cups and virginity)
Thanks
'The Community'.
