ive woken up at 4 am with an image in my head
i cant get it out of my mind and its got me out of bed

and plaintively speaking as my eyes fizz darkly
ive been quoting the bible - rather starkly:

lines about souls and flesh and the trades of eternal
damnation, salvation and of course, the infernal

knowledge: carnal - of someone we'd rather not know
in that way and sympathy - for the devil.

Having mentioned it now in this plainsong,
I can evenly go back to sleep

But the image that woke me up
is the thing i will just have to keep
